If you’re familiar with Colorado then you’ve probably been to the beautiful town of Estes Park & Rocky Mountain National Park. RMNP is filled with rich history dating back to 1800s. President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill to make this area a national park in 1915. There’s plenty more interesting facts about this area. One of the coolest facts is that the groom’s family owns a cabin inside the National Park! Allyson & Michael live in Michigan but traveled many times to visit this special cabin and fell more in love with the area and each other. They decided a destination wedding was in the cards for them and couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate than RMNP. We traveled all around the park documenting their day which was full of beauty! May in Colorado can bring sunshine or snow as seen in photos! Congratulations you two I had a wonderful time exploring with you and sharing your love for the mountains!
I had a great time photographing this event for Noelle Garcia of SILX Global. Horsetooth Reservoir is such a beautiful backdrop for heading out on a SUP. All of these strong beauties are local area business women in the NOCO region. Nicole Sattler with Nourish Nutrition was also a host and created a wonderful spread of healthy snacks perfect for the venue. Lauren Storeby owner of Snack Attack in Fort Collins who is also a yoga instructor was also onsite to lead the group on SUP yoga! I was inspired by all of the support these women had for each other! I’m all about being genuine and supporting local! Thanks again ladies for the great time!
Kelly & Branden are just genuinely happy people and I LOVE that about them. Working with them from day one was easy breezy and FUN! Kelly & Branden have a beautiful love story that led them to Paris for their engagement! In her words, “we went to Paris for our 5 year dating anniversary, and he got down on one knee in front of Notre Dame at Midnight. It was all lit up and beautiful, and I did not see it coming!” These two choose an intimate wedding venue in Lyons, CO called Stone Mountain Lodge. I love that this venue is family own and run bringing that unique Colorado feel to the venue. Every detail was a nod to their love story including the Harry Potter books used as centerpieces! Congratulations Kelly & Branden and here’s to a lifetime of happiness! - Kristen-
Cory & Sarah are such awesome people…can I start with that?! I first met them in a coffee shop to discuss their wedding planning and they were ALL smiles. Sarah knew that photography was a big ticket item for her and Cory agreed. I couldn’t wait to take them out for their engagement session and show them just how great their images were going to be! We started at Duncan’s ridge overlooking Horsetooth Reservoir and finished our session in Old Town Fort Collins for another look. What you see below is just the two of them connected and excited for their future. I LOVE how this session turned out and can’t wait for their BIG day! Thanks Cory and Sarah for choosing me as your photographer! -Kristen -
Luke and Kristal had such a beautiful spring wedding at The Tapestry House in Fort Collins, CO. I have to say planning an entire wedding while being over 1000 miles away isn’t an easy task. Kristal and Luke not only pulled it off but made it look effortless! From the Airbnb where the girls got ready to the lawn games and Photo Booth, no detail was left ignored. My favorite part of the entire day was the idea to have a morning wedding with brunch served- how clever! Being a bride today means your wedding truly can and should be as unique as YOU! Luke and Kristal I wish you a lifetime of laughs and love that knows no bounds. I’m so excited for you to start this new adventure together! Congratulations and thank you for choosing me to be your photographer!
When you start by photographing a couple’s engagement and over the years their family grows, the only feeling that comes to mind is blessed. I’m so blessed to be part of something bigger! It’s honestly one of the best parts of being a photographer, the connection you make with people who quickly become friends. Isn’t human connection what we all crave? Just looking at these images makes me certain that we all want to belong and love is the glue that keeps us together. A child can bring so much joy! For Mark and Kelly that’s exactly what their little one has done. Being a blended family has it’s own set of struggles but sweet Eliott has been nothing but a bundle of joy to everyone since her birth. I am witness to the effect she has on every single member of this family. The bigger kiddos light up around her and her expressions are priceless when she looks at them! I love that this session was created at their home which makes life easy for a busy momma. I’d love to create sweet memories that capture exactly where you’re at in life. I promise the session will be fun, playful and easy. We’re all busy but don’t miss this time…their only little once. Mark and Kelly- keep growing these beautiful kiddos wild and free. I can’t wait until the next session! - Kristen -
Did you know that the nursing profession is one of the most trusted professions in this country? Nurses were at the top of the Gallop poll for most trusted professions once again and I couldn’t be more proud! Nursing has a very rich history! Most agree that modern nursing began with Florence Nightingale in 1800s. She began the very first nursing school in the world in London in 1860. Among her accolades were her fight against disease by increasing awareness of hand hygiene. She also played a huge role in the Crimean War where she would tend to injured soldiers long into the night deeming her the “lady with the lamp”.
I feel incredibly proud to have been a nurse myself for 15 years and also to be selected as the photographer for this amazing event for the 3rd time. I watch and listen to all of the amazing things these nurses have done with their careers and it honestly makes me beam with joy! I’ve tried to capture the spirit of nursing in these images and the strength of every nominee! Banner Health has done an exceptional job of putting on this classy event and truly honoring their nurses. I’m sure like me everyone’s hearts were full after taking part in this event. Congratulations to all of the winners and good luck at the Denver 2019 Nightingale Luminary Awards Gala!
Yay you’ve chosen to have your bridal portraits taken as part of your wedding photography package – I hope you get excited, because you’ll have a blast spending an hour feeling like a model! It’s so much fun getting to try out your wedding day look with bridal hair, makeup, & florals! It is truly a special experience, and you end up with gorgeous photos where the focus is all on YOU! I’d like to share a few tips for brides who are looking to book this package.
When planning on bridal portraits you must plan ahead with your dress fittings. Your tailor will need to be made aware of the date you need your final fitting for the portrait session. Most times I schedule these 3-4 weeks in advance.
Location, Location, Location
I geek out on location ideas because we live in such a beautiful place! I will literally drive to the top of Trail Ridge Road if your heart is set on it! Plus just think of those mountain images will we create! This of course will take some planning so let’s meet for coffee and discuss all the options indoors and out! I promise wherever we decide the images will knock you off your socks!
Hair & Makeup
I work with several hair and makeup artists that would be happy to assist with creating a unique look that’s all your own! Start pinning away and bring all of your ideas! This is the perfect time to “try” out that special look you’ve been dreaming of! Doing a hair trial is also a great way to calm your nerves for your actual wedding day. I can speak from experience with this one! The hair trial will set you free from any worry and will make sure you’re stylist can execute the exact look you’ve been dreaming of. Again I suggest you coordinate in advance with your stylists so their schedule can accommodate our session.
Make sure to contact your wedding day florist and let them know you are taking bridal portraits. Most florists will be able to provide a bouquet that matches the one you will carry down the aisle! Be sure to keep the bouquet in water until you arrive to your portrait location. I recommend you also schedule this 3-4 weeks in advance.
Last but not least bring a friend! This is your time to have fun and play around with your wedding day look! I even recommend making a playlist! If you forget no big deal I have Spotify and a portable speaker- I always have your back! The key to great shots is relaxing and just being yourself. I can’t wait to work with you to create images just like these!
I LOVE doing in home newborn sessions for so many reasons. My favorite reason is because it takes a ton of stress off of the mommas with packing up, getting everything around etc. When I entered Greg and Courtney’s new home I was immediately greeted with a smiling toddler! He was so excited to show me his new brother! We walked over to where he was all curled up and snuggly, dreaming and looking like a little angel. Being a big brother is a big deal! I can’t imagine life without a sibling. My sister and I literally did just about everything together as kids and there’s no doubt these two will as well, especially being so close in age. There’s a saying that I believe goes something like, the days are long but the years are short. I can relate to this in so many ways! My two step kiddos have been in my life now since they were 2 & 3 years old, now they’re 8 & 9! They were a huge inspiration to me when I was first starting out in photography. I’m sure looking back at the thousands of photos I’ve taken they’re right up there in the most photographed subjects! As parents it’s easy to get a million photos on your phone but sometimes that’s where they end up. I encourage you to set up a milestone session with me for your kiddos. Life belongs in print and those sweet memories belong on your gallery wall. I do offer packages for newborns, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year! I am so honored to watch your precious little loves grow up! Parenthood is such a beautiful gift! Just look at how these parents look at their babies… the love is overflowing! Thank you Courtney & Greg for trusting me with your sweet family! ———-Kristen ———
He looked over at his little girl. Tears in his eyes. This was the moment they’d both been dreaming about for so long. Paul had always promised Grace he’d be there on her wedding day. For years Paul was dedicated to serving the public as a police officer, strong and ready to help. Today he’s recovering from a recent brain surgery and battling cancer. He has to find a new source of strength, his body may be weak but Paul’s spirit is so strong! When his family found out about his diagnosis, his daughter Grace thought about her situation. She wasn’t planning on getting married this soon but she knew she wanted her father to be present on her very special day. While he was in the hospital the idea came to fruition. As soon the hospital staff got wind of this wonderful idea “a hospital wedding”, plans began to unfold! The story is told of many different UCHealth team members pulling together to give Grace and Christian a beautiful wedding at Poudre Valley Hospital. The florist is a hospital volunteer named Fran Culler, the cake was made by the niece of an oncology nurse, the makeup artist is a CNA named Jessica Purkal , the Chaplin Terry Skov who also works for PVH offered to officiate & I am a flight nurse/photographer. We are all employees of UCHealth and were willing to give our time and services to see their dreams become a reality. This isn’t the only amazing efforts made by this hospital system. For dinner the entire family was treated with steak and lobster, complete with a sparkling cider toast! Honestly it’s these little moments in your life that you’ll look back on and be proud of. I again want to say thank you and congratulations to this wonderful family who was so gracious and happy on this special day. I stopped taking photos and just watched as they laughed and told stories while enjoying dinner. I couldn’t help but think- these are the memories that will stick with all of us for life! - If you’d like to read more about this amazing day click here for CBS Denver’s story.
When the weather gets bad I turn to a beautiful studio space in old town Fort Collins. The Merchant room at Walnut Creek has a space that’s a mix between rustic and industrial with floor to ceiling windows for amazing light! I am so honored to work with families who keep coming back for portraits year after year. I love will walk you through the process from start to finish and even help you create a Pinterest page to narrow down your style! My favorite part of the process is the day I get to deliver their gallery! The beautiful messages I receive of how happy my clients are only fuels my passion for this industry! Get in touch with me through my contact page! I’d love to see you year after year too!
I still can’t stop staring at these images! This momma certainly has that “glow” everyone talks about! These two were just so cute together and excited for the birth of their first child. This type of excitement isn’t seen in a world filled with instant information at fingertips all that often. This type of excitement is what life is really ALL about! Are you searching for photos that document a real connection with the ones you hold dearly and make up your inner circle? I know how important those images are to me and my clients…when she saw these photos the first time she cried! I teared up knowing I helped create something so special for this little family. If you are expecting or have a friend who’s expecting reach out and I promise the end result will be gorgeous! -Kristen-
Are you like me and seriously LOVE old town Fort Collins? Every single time I shoot here I find some cute spot to use for portraits. This family like mine is in the midst of a very busy season in life! They have 3 kiddos and 2 adult schedules on top of everything and they made the time to capture this crazy and put it into print! I believe our life is our art and art is just better shown off on our walls to be appreciated every time we stop to really look. Life is beautiful and regardless if you’re in the middle of a busy season or a peaceful new start you deserve to have your art in print! Let’s go explore and I’ll be there to watch your memories unfold and document your art! - Kristen -
You guys this family session was taken on one of the worst weather days we’ve had in October! I was almost going to cancel driving up from Fort Collins to Evergreen as the fog was engulfing my Subaru, but I kept on! Once I arrived I was so surprised by the beauty of the area. The snow and yellow leaves of the Aspen trees made for magical scenery. I swear it looked straight out of a postcard! Once we got the kiddos to laugh everything was a breeze and we all had so much fun! I’m so thankful I didn’t let a little snow and fog stop me from having one of my favorite sessions to date! I hope to see you all again next year! - Kristen-
When I met this family I knew right away we’d have a great session! Spring Canyon Park in Fort Collins was the perfect place on a warm fall afternoon for their family portrait session! I love being present watching how families interact with each other. I absolutely loved how these turned out! On site sessions that have a playground nearby are the best places for families with littles as adding this on the end can keep everyone happy and excited! There’s still time to schedule your family portraits before the snow is here to stay.
Paul and Bailee were a joy to work with! We worked together really well to create these unique images of places that are special to them. It was such a cold October day but even when the weather is less than ideal I can use it to our advantage. How you say? Cloudy days are actually better than super bright harsh sunny days because clouds can create a natural filter for the camera! I really love how these turned out and I seriously can’t wait to photograph their wedding come summertime! Congrats you two! - Kristen-
It’s always my goal to showcase a senior’s personality. I really want them to feel comfortable and have the BEST experience possible! When I heard Jonathan was into ultimate frisbee and the outdoors I knew I HAD to capture both! We choose oldtown for a more urban feel for a few shots then headed to the beautiful picnic rock area. I LOVE how these turned out! Congrats Jonathan on your senior year! - Kristen -
What a dream working with Abby was! She’s incredibly easy to photograph & one of the most photogenic people out there in this world- lucky girl! What I like even more than that is her attitude and personality. Abby came prepared to try different locations, outfit changes and poses. We took most of her photos in one location in Fort Collins near Lions Open Space. She was happy and energetic which really came through in her senior portraits! So here’s some advice for your senior session- bring your family, friends and even your dog if it makes you happy! Another awesome idea is make a playlist and bring a portable speaker to your session so you can relax and have FUN! You’re only a senior once so let’s create something we’re really proud of together. - Kristen
Estes Park Colorado is the perfect place for a fall engagement session! Ashley and Jacob were so much fun to work with! You can feel their love and friendship come through in these images. I’m so excited & honored to shoot their wedding this upcoming summer. Engagement sessions typically take a few hours, during that time period we will go to multiple locations and have multiple outfit changes. The goal is to just have fun and focus on each other…when you do these two things you’ll get images you LOVE just like Ashley & Jacob! Congrats on your engagement! Let’s meet for coffee and see how individualized we can make your session! - Kristen -
Don’t you just get ALL the FEELS looking through this session? You can certainly feel the love between this whole family and the excitement about the new baby! I know a lot of pregnant mommas that are tired and just don’t feel up to a photo shoot. This is such a special time in your lives to document! I make it super easy by coming to you! Yes this session was done at the location of their choice- no travel required! Doesn’t she look stunning- I mean that glow is for real! I’m so happy with the results and I just can’t wait to snuggle that baby! Congratulations Mark & Kelly!!!—————-Kristen ————-
